The Assemblies of Peace and Truce represent one of the earliest expressions of parliamentarism in Europe and a precedent for the Catalan institutional tradition, based on law, representation, participation, deliberation, and the culture of pacts.
The council believes this historical commemoration transcends the mere recovery of medieval history. The Millennium is conceived as an opportunity to champion fundamental values that remain fully relevant today, such as peace, dialogue, mediation, the defense of human rights, and human dignity.
The Millennium manifesto highlights how the Assemblies of Peace and Truce managed to articulate, in a historical context marked by violence and power fragmentation, a space for collective deliberation and established the first rules and guarantees to protect both people and their property.
With this adhesion, Sant Fruitós de Bages joins a national celebration that seeks to use historical memory as a tool to reflect on the present and build the future. The aim is to highlight the importance of institutions, dialogue, and the culture of pacts as key instruments for advancing towards a more cohesive, just, and diversity-respecting society.
Furthermore, the council commits to actively promoting events, awareness days, and other commemorative activities within the municipality.
