The Parc del Pescador in Cambrils has become the venue for the first edition of the Cambrils Pétanque Passion, an international pétanque competition gathering 154 players from October 18-24.

The international competition welcomes participants from France, Switzerland, Catalonia, the rest of Spain, and Morocco, with an estimated 415 matches to be played across men's, women's, and mixed teams. The event, organized by Team Challenge Pétanque Passion in collaboration with the Cambrils City Council, the Municipal Tourism Board, and the Sol Port Cambrils and Port Eugeni hotels, aims to boost the municipality's tourism activity outside the summer season.
The Councilor for Tourism and Economic Promotion, Patricia de Miguel, highlighted that the championship helps to de-seasonalize the tourist season, generates hotel employment, and attracts visitors willing to travel outside the summer months. She also emphasized the international dimension and its impact on strategic markets like France.
The head of Challenge Pétanque Passion, Mickael Boreau, explained that the initiative aims to popularize pétanque beyond France and link the competition with tourism, gastronomy, and the destination's culture, fostering conviviality and exchange among participants. The park remained open to the public to bring the event closer to the community.
Accommodation for participants at the Sol Port Cambrils and Port Eugeni hotels strengthens the competition's direct impact on the municipality's tourism and economic activity. The organizers have already expressed their intention to repeat the event in 2027 with two editions.
