The main objective of this initiative, promoted by the Department of Citizen Participation, is to strengthen civic centers as spaces for social interaction and tools for community cohesion serving the neighborhoods and citizens. The project is supported by the consultancy firm Sinapse Psicologia.
Over the coming months, working sessions will be held with neighborhood associations, user entities, municipal technical staff, and political representatives to gather experiences and improvement proposals. In parallel, an open survey will be conducted among all citizens, including those who have never used these facilities.
The Councilor for Citizen Participation, Antonio Garcia, highlighted that the process begins now, twenty years after the civic center network was established under the same co-managed model. "So far it has worked very well, but we want to take a further step and reflect on future challenges such as climate shelters and the need for spaces oriented towards training, lifelong learning, or community health," he explained.
Garcia concluded that "We are in a time of eco-social transition, where these meeting spaces for neighbors must be permeable to the needs we detect." The conclusions will be compiled into a diagnosis and proposals document that will serve as a roadmap for future municipal actions regarding civic facilities and community outreach.
