The agency Ports de la Generalitat completed yesterday, Friday, January 30, the necessary work to restore the normal functioning of the green beacon at the Port of Cambrils. The structure had been knocked down onto the breakwater by strong wind gusts recorded on Saturday, January 24.
The beacon, located at the end of the shelter dike, suffered wind gusts of up to 103 km/h, according to data from the anemometer installed on the structure itself, causing it to detach from its anchorage. Following the incident, the port administration immediately reported the damage to Puertos del Estado, the competent body for maritime signaling.
Work began on Monday with the dismantling of the beacon equipment, confirming that the historical structure was intact. The repair, which started the following day, was a complex operation requiring the intervention of a 300-ton crane, coordinated with the Club Nàutic, to lift an excavator onto the shelter dike.
Once the structure was relocated and the anchorages reinforced, a new lantern was installed. Ports de la Generalitat has confirmed to Puertos del Estado that the beacon is now operational again. The structure is scheduled to be repainted during the spring as part of the maintenance actions planned for 2026.
