The Local Security Board of Reus has revealed that, despite an overall 9.5% decrease in criminal acts during 2025 compared to the previous year, cybercrimes have experienced a notable surge. This data contrasts with the general perception of security expressed by Mayor Sandra Guaita, who has described Reus as a “safe city”.
The 2025 balance shows a reduction in crimes against persons (-4.2%) and against public order (-22.9%), decreasing from 6,895 to 6,242 incidents. However, crimes against public health increased by 18.7%, attributed to greater police pressure. Crimes against property, which represent 73% of the total, also decreased by 12.2%.
“"Reus is a safe city and the data is good."
The chief inspector of the Mossos d’Esquadra Baix Camp-Priorat Basic Police Area, Xavier Hervàs, has pointed out that the criminal typology of Reus is similar to that of other cities in the region, with a significant weight of thefts due to the powerful commercial network. Robberies with force and with violence or intimidation decreased by 25.9% and 25.3% respectively. This improvement is attributed to police coordination, joint prevention devices, and the expansion of human and technological resources.
The fight against repeat offending is another key point, with the identification of about ten individuals who accumulate around 100 arrests in Reus. The Guardia Urbana has had pioneering access to the state database of precautionary measures, improving control over these offenders. Looking ahead, the city council relies on the installation of video cameras and the deployment of a citizen security mobile application to continue improving indicators.
“"Much preventive action and citizen awareness are needed."
