The appearance of a dead cetacean on Almadraba beach, in Vandellòs i l'Hospitalet de l'Infant, forced the hoisting of the red flag this Sunday morning, prohibiting swimming in the area. The animal, which had been dead at sea for several days, emitted a strong odor, prompting the cordoning off of the promenade to prevent onlookers from approaching.
Around one in the afternoon, the operation to remove the carcass began. The task required the intervention of a boat and an excavator, with the collaboration of agents from the Local Police, volunteers from Civil Protection, and the CRAM Foundation. Once removed, the cetacean will be incinerated, and the beach will be decontaminated.
The chief sergeant of the Local Police, Sergi Navarro, indicated that swimming could be reinstated at Almadraba beach between Monday and Tuesday, depending on the lifeguards' analyses. Meanwhile, municipal machinery is working on cleaning the sand and the bloodstain in the water.
