The Children's Department of the Cambrils City Council is launching the 'Estima't Infants' project this academic year, an experiential initiative designed to promote self-esteem, self-awareness, and personal skills in children about to enter 6th grade. This initiative expands upon the work already being done with youth groups in secondary school.
The project stems from cross-departmental collaboration between the areas of Children, Education, Social Welfare, and Youth. The goal is to provide tools and support spaces for the personal and emotional growth of children and young people, particularly during the transition from primary to secondary school.
The Councilor for Education, Employment, Youth, and Children, Natàlia Pleguezuelos, highlighted the aim to advance this support and equip children with emotional tools before starting 1st year of secondary school. "We want to accompany our children and young people in their personal and emotional growth, and therefore we believe it is essential to offer them spaces where they can better understand themselves, express themselves freely, strengthen their self-esteem, and learn to manage their emotions," she stated.
The project is part of the 'Youth Well-being' axis of the Cambrils Municipal Youth Plan, focusing on personal growth, self-care, and family support.
'Estima't' is conceived as a continuous process addressing aspects such as self-esteem, identity, personal values, self-concept, needs, boundaries, emotional management, fears, and confidence. The methodology will combine experiential dynamics, drawing, theater, artistic expression, and bodywork in a safe environment.
The project will be organized into three groups tailored to each stage: 'Estima't INFANTS' for 6th grade, and two 'Estima't JOVES' groups for 1st-2nd year and 3rd-4th year of secondary school, respectively. Each group will consist of nine monthly sessions held between October and June of the 2026-2027 academic year.
The final session for the 6th-grade group will involve families to jointly conclude the process experienced by the children.
