The Cambrils Town Council has announced that it will soon launch a public tender for the eight stalls at the Mercat de la Vila. The tender's terms are expected to be published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Tarragona (BOPT) in the coming days, opening a one-month period for objections before the tender officially begins, estimated around September.
The stall distribution will include four for fresh produce: one for fruits and vegetables, one for fish, one for meat, and one for cured meats. The meat and cured meat stalls could be managed by the same company, while the other two must be operated by different vendors. The remaining four stalls will be for quality product tasting, with one of them being a mandatory bakery.
During the July council meeting, the Councillor for Promotion, Patricia de Miguel, expressed satisfaction with the interest already shown by several individuals in managing the stalls of the renovated market.
These actions are part of the market's comprehensive renovation, which also includes environmental pacification works, the installation of a new pergola, and updates to the facades and interior equipment. These works have an approximate budget of 190,000 euros.
The municipal government is thus advancing the project to reopen the Mercat de la Vila before the end of 2026, coinciding with the market's centenary, as it first opened its doors in 1926.
