The initiative, coinciding with the international breast cancer awareness month, aims to highlight the often-overlooked aspects of breast cancer, such as the impact of the disease and treatments, physical, emotional, and social consequences, and the difficulties that may persist after therapy concludes.
The walk, themed «Let's walk to make the unseen visible», will start at 8 PM from Pla de les Serenes towards Pi Rodó, transforming the promenade into an illuminated «pink tide».
The Mayor of Cambrils, Oliver Klein, emphasized ACAM's year-round work, assuring the City Council's support for initiatives like the “Invisible Lights” project. The Councilor for Health, Equality, and Sports, Gemma Balanyà, highlighted the importance of a «perspective that goes beyond the strictly medical dimension», as the disease primarily affects women and can have a profound impact on various aspects of their lives.
The president of ACAM, María Allegue, explained that the initiative aims to underscore the importance of prevention, early detection, and the need for medical, emotional, and social support networks for those affected.
The walk will also have a solidarity aspect with an entry fee of €14 and a «dorsal zero» option. The funds raised will be allocated to ACAM's various sociosanitary projects and services. Afterwards, participants will enjoy a healthy refreshment and a raffle of gifts donated by local entities, shops, and businesses.
The initiative is supported by local businesses such as Pastisseria La Font, Natur Fruits, and Bonpreu Esclat for refreshments, and highlights the work of ACAM's volunteers.
