The pacification works around the Mercat de la Vila in Cambrils, which began in May with an investment of 623,000 euros, are progressing well, with the new pergola on Jacint Verdaguer street now visible.
This structure, spanning the entire width of the street, is central to the transformation of this area in the Barri Antic. Its upper part will be covered with a awning system, and the space beneath will accommodate outdoor seating for the market's tasting stalls.
Jacint Verdaguer street will be closed to traffic, similar to the system on Rambla Jaume I. During vehicle-free hours, tables and chairs from the terraces will extend onto the street under the pergola, creating a single-level public space. The old asphalt pavement has been replaced with new cobblestone.
The project, covering 1,000 square meters, also includes an update to the plaça de la Verge del Camí with new play equipment and enhancements to the surroundings with benches, chairs, tables, bicycle parking, and planters. The market building and the pergola will be illuminated with LED lights.
