The Platform for the Costa Daurada Greenway once again mobilized dozens of people in Miami Platja on May 9 to demand the construction of the infrastructure, after Adif lost 5.8 million euros in European funds allocated to the project.

The fourth walk organized by the Platform for the Costa Daurada Greenway took place on Estany Gelat beach in Miami Platja. This mobilization is the first since it became public that Adif has lost the 5.8 million euro subsidy from the Recovery Plan, committed to the transformation of 19.4 kilometers of the old railway line. This infrastructure is intended to connect Cambrils, Mont-roig del Camp, and Vandellòs i L'Hospitalet de l'Infant, and the works are already more than two years behind schedule.

"We are exactly where we didn't want to be, the situation is worrying, we would have loved to be wrong."

The Platform's promoters had previously warned about the risk of losing European funds. They criticize that local administrations did not act with the necessary speed to approve the lease agreements, which could have accelerated the start of the works. Now, the loss of funding means that the 5.8 million euros of investment will have to be obtained through other channels, although the construction contract with Acsa has not been canceled.
The three involved municipalities have assured that the lease documents will be signed in the short term and trust that the railway infrastructure administrator will proceed with the Greenway without alterations. The Platform has sent emails to the councils and to Adif to express their concern and request a work schedule. So far, only the mayor of Cambrils has responded, stating that the project is not blocked or in danger, especially the Cambrils section.

"We will not stop until the works begin."
