The move follows an announcement by Mayor Sandra Guaita that the historic building requires a multi-million euro investment to repair its roof. The theater was recently closed due to electrical failures and fire safety concerns, sparking a debate over the lack of proper maintenance by the local administration.
The opposition highlights that the Diputació de Tarragona has failed to provide its statutory third of the budget. While President Noemí Llauradó committed to increasing funding to 272,835 euros by 2025, the CUP argues that years of underfunding have led to the current crisis.

Councilor Mònica Pàmies criticized the decision to close the venue during the peak season instead of planning repairs earlier.
