The campaign, running under the slogan "The link that makes us immense," is taking place in various hospitals and over 100 donation points across Catalonia until January 17. The Hospital Universitari Sant Joan de Reus is one of the participating centers, accepting donations until next Thursday.
The goal of the Blood and Tissue Bank (Banc de Sang i Teixits) and the Red Cross volunteers is to achieve the solidarity of approximately 10,000 people throughout the Catalan territory during the marathon.
“"The marathon has been underway for a few days now; we need people to get encouraged and come because, so far, we are not achieving the figures we would like."
Territorial Head Albert Soley highlighted that despite the general decline in blood donations, especially among young donors, plasma donations are "slowly" increasing, although self-sufficiency has not yet been reached. Plasma, unlike blood which expires in six weeks, is frozen for use in manufacturing medicines.
