Agents from the Reus Investigation Unit carried out the arrests this Wednesday morning, after several alerts were received on Tuesday around 6:00 PM via the 112 emergency number regarding noises similar to firearm detonations in the Carme neighborhood.
According to initial investigations, the weapon used was not a real firearm but a blank-firing or starter pistol. Catalan police have confirmed that the arrested individuals, father and son, are being investigated for a crime of threats.
Initial information circulating among neighbors suggested that a man had fired shots into the air while making threats. However, during the zone inspection, investigators found no casings or projectiles to confirm the use of live ammunition.
Several patrols from the Reus Guardia Urbana and Mossos d'Esquadra responded to the scene, cordoning off the area and initiating preliminary inquiries. Early leads already indicated that the detonations might have come from a blank-firing weapon and that the alleged perpetrators had been identified.
Police were also investigating a possible link between the incident and a long-standing neighborhood dispute among several families in the Carme area. With the arrests and confirmation of the weapon type, the Mossos are progressing in clarifying the events, which caused alarm but no injuries.
