The first phase of the Doctor Ferran street renovation in Reus was inaugurated this Tuesday, improving accessibility and sustainable mobility in the area.

The city of Reus has opened the first phase of the Doctor Ferran street renovation works to traffic. The intervention, focused on the section between Avinguda dels Països Catalans and Carrer de Roger de Belfort, has incorporated significant improvements in accessibility, sustainable mobility, and traffic calming, especially near the General Prim school. The trees and public lighting have also been renewed.
The project has divided the street into two distinct sections. The area closest to the educational center, between Avinguda dels Països Catalans and Carrer Lepant, has been transformed into a single platform. The rest of the section, up to Carrer de Roger de Belfort, maintains a configuration with separate carriageways and sidewalks, including new adapted pedestrian crossings.
One of the notable novelties is the increase in greenery, with the planting of 44 new trees planned for the entire street, 25 of which have already been incorporated in this first stage. This action is part of the Reus Respira project, which aims to increase green spaces and mitigate the effects of high temperatures.
The public lighting has also undergone renovation, increasing from seven to nineteen light points in this section, with more efficient luminaires installed at a lower height to minimize disturbances to nearby homes.
This first phase had a budget of 428,737 euros and was carried out by Construccions Vinaixa SA. The city council is already working on the project for the second phase, which will cover the section between Carrer de Roger de Belfort and Carrer de l'Escorxador, with an estimated cost of 250,000 euros and scheduled to begin before the end of the year.
