The municipal council of la Selva del Camp approved a joint declaration this Tuesday opposing the new MAT Aragon-Catalonia high-voltage line project planned by Red Eléctrica de España.

Political groups PSC, ERC, Junts, and CUP argued that the infrastructure promotes an energy model with negative impacts on biodiversity and local quality of life. They called for renewable energy alternatives that prioritize local efficiency over large-scale transport lines.
The session also marked the end of Josep Masdeu's 35-year political career. He is succeeded by Adrià Girona, who will lead the Urban Planning department. Mayor Enric Roberto and Neus Bové have also redistributed several municipal responsibilities following this change.
Additionally, the council greenlit the 2026 university grants, maintaining a 10% funding increase to support thirteen local students pursuing higher education degrees.
