Minister Ordeig reported to the Parliament that 22,233 wild boars have been captured in Catalonia since the beginning of 2026 to control the growing population.

The official count excludes 2,365 animals caught in African Swine Fever zones. To achieve these results, the Department of Agriculture has mobilized 300 hunters and 300 dogs in collaboration with local hunting societies and municipalities.
A new monitoring system called aguait has been introduced, involving 100 hunters weekly to track boar movements. Despite this, farmers in l'Aleixar (Baix Camp) remain desperate as the animals continue to cause significant damage to agricultural land.

"The new aguait system allows for continuous monitoring of wild boar presence."

Local producers are experimenting with various deterrents, including electric fencing and olfactory repellents. In some cases, peach trees are being individually wrapped in heavy metal mesh to prevent the boars from destroying the harvest before it even blooms.
