The new system, which was implemented on Monday, January 19, guarantees two hours of free parking for customers who make a purchase. This is extended to three hours if the minimum purchase is 20 euros or more. The fee for non-customers or for exceeding the free time is 5 cents per minute.
“"I found out when I arrived and I think it's unfair. It's a shame because I used this parking lot many times when coming to Reus."
The general sentiment among clients was one of resignation, although some expressed frustration, noting that the northeast area of Reus has lost a key, albeit private, free parking option previously used by many visitors.
The measure also impacts local workers, including those at the Il·lustre Col·legi de l’Advocacia de Reus, located nearby. The institution contacted Carrefour to seek an agreement for its employees.
“"From the beginning, contact and information have been quite opaque. It wasn't until mid-December that we were able to contact the actual management representative."
Dean Sergi Guillén criticized the hypermarket's decision to delay a meeting to evaluate the measure until late February or early March, arguing that the parking lot has been “underutilized for weeks” and immediate action is needed.
