The exhibition opening, which can be visited from September 10th to 27th, will take place on Thursday, September 10th, at 7:00 PM. Roigé's work stems from the need to give form to a memory that demands to be transmitted, inspired by a documentary novel about the International Brigades.
The project reconstructs Republican memory, focusing on the experiences of women and men during the Civil War: militiawomen, teachers, intellectuals, and resistance figures from the home front. Weaving becomes an act of memory and resistance against oblivion, transforming ropes and textile materials into strokes and forms using the over-weaving technique.
Mariona Roigé Salvadó (Botarell, 1997) is a multidisciplinary artist trained in Barcelona and Tarragona, specializing in Mural Art and Pictorial Techniques. After a period in the film and audiovisual sector, she has deepened her practice in textile art and contemporary tapestry, employing the over-weaving technique. Her work draws from references such as Magdalena Abakanowicz, Josep Royo, and Jacqueline Surdell.
Currently, Roigé balances her artistic production with her work in the production team at Sala Trono in Tarragona, maintaining ties with cultural management and performing arts in the region. With this exhibition, the Església Vella Cultural Centre launches a season that values contemporary artistic creation and the dialogue with memory and heritage.
The exhibition will be open until September 27th, 2026. The opening event will feature a performance-concert with Lídia Papio and Teko.
