The population increase during the summer months has pushed the waste collection service in Mont-roig and Miami Platja to its limit. Residents report frequent issues with full bins and garbage bags left in public spaces, a situation they deem «unacceptable» and which creates a «lamentable image» for the municipalities.
The City Council of Mont-roig del Camp has publicly acknowledged the «serious shortcomings» of the service and has demanded «urgent measures» from the regional company Secomsa, which is responsible for collection. The council points out that the operational problems of the concessionaire company should not affect the daily lives of citizens and warns that the recycling centers also lack sufficient capacity.
This problem recurs annually, according to residents, who criticize the lack of service reinforcement during the peak season. The mayor, Fran Morancho, has expressed his dissatisfaction with Secomsa's management, noting that the current contract expires in May 2027 and that work is already underway on a new alternative to ensure an «efficient and quality» service.
