The European project STOP-IATRO is starting an implementation phase in Reus, focusing on the multidisciplinary pharmacotherapeutic review of patients over seventy-five years old suffering from cardiovascular conditions. This initiative aims to improve the safety of medical treatments for the elderly population.
Likewise, the hospital has commemorated several relevant health days. On September 21st, the Cognitive Impairment Unit organized an event for the World Alzheimer's Day, aimed at patients, families, and professionals, with educational talks about the disease. The World Medical Ethics Day was also celebrated, recalling the importance of ethical principles in healthcare assistance, and World Patient Safety Day, focused on safe care for non-communicable diseases.
Other commemorations include the International Day of Awareness of Drug Overdose, with a participatory activity involving patients, and World Sepsis Day, where the importance of early detection and immediate treatment initiation was highlighted. Additionally, the International Day of Midwifery was celebrated, emphasizing support for patients before, during, and after childbirth, with 1,270 births attended during 2025.
In the areas of research and gender perspective, the hospital is participating in a study showing that the survival rate for women in sudden cardiac arrest is half that of men, underscoring how gender perspective can improve prevention, diagnostic, and therapeutic strategies. The work of five advanced practice nurses has also been recognized.
Finally, the Sant Joan de Reus University Hospital has bid farewell to two long-serving professionals: Francesc Xavier Claramunt Estradé, who has ended his tenure after 41 years, and Maria Rosa Pallejà Huguet, who has completed 38 years of service.
