This initiative, part of the European campaign Let's Clean Up Europe and promoted by the Catalan Waste Agency, mobilized primary and secondary students to clean various areas of the city.
The educational groups worked in fifteen locations near their schools, including paths, ravines, streams, and undeveloped public access plots. In total, 518.54 kg of waste was collected, broken down into 103.68 kg of packaging, 29.13 kg of paper, 305.56 kg of refuse, and 80.17 kg of glass.
The activity, organized by the Department of Environment and Sustainability of the Reus City Council, aims to raise awareness among young people about the problem of abandoned waste in both natural and urban environments. It also seeks to foster responsible attitudes towards waste prevention and proper management.
Prior to the cleanup day, students studied topics related to waste reduction and environmental conservation in the classroom. After the cleanup actions, participants gathered in the Plaça de la Llibertat to count the collected materials.
“"This initiative is an opportunity for young people to gain direct awareness of the impact of waste on their environment and become active agents in its protection."
