The Civil Guard launched a major operation this Tuesday, February 17, in Reus and Mataro to dismantle a network smuggling lentisk plants to Central Europe.

Starting in the early hours of the morning, officers raided homes and industrial warehouses. In Reus, a cold storage room filled with bundles of the plant was discovered at the Agro-Reus industrial estate. The investigation focuses on environmental crimes related to the illegal harvesting of this shrub in the Tarragona and Ebre regions.

"We are talking about many thousands of bundles, many thousands of kilos, and many thousands of euros."

According to the Seprona unit, these organized groups use large vans to transport the plants to warehouses before shipping them abroad, where they are used for floral decorations. The case remains under judicial secrecy as the investigation continues.
