Automatic bollards rise on a street in Reus to regulate traffic.

The Reus City Council will launch a new traffic regulation system with automatic bollards and license plate readers around El Pallol and Doctor Robert street next Monday, August 24th.

The measure, which already has over 1,000 access authorizations processed, aims to pedestrianize the area and enhance pedestrian safety given the high traffic intensity and narrow sidewalks. The Guàrdia Urbana (Local Police) will increase its presence in the initial days to inform and address queries.
The regulation extends to new access points such as Doctor Robert street with Plaça de Catalunya, Puríssima Sang alley with Puríssima Sang square, Roser street with Puríssima Sang alley, and Mar street with Raval de Sant Pere.
The project, developed with residents and merchants, includes changes in traffic direction, new automatic bollards, and improved signage. Bollards will be installed on Doctor Robert street, Puríssima Sang alley, and Sant Pere Apòstol street, with one being relocated from Mar street. Signage will also be reinforced on the Riera de Miró.
The regulation hours will follow the usual loading and unloading schedule for the old town, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 AM. Outside these hours, access will be free or restricted to authorized vehicles, controlled by license plate readers. Access points will also feature an intercom for incident resolution.
Residents registered in the area with vehicles registered in Reus will not need additional procedures. Public services, taxis, and emergency vehicles will also have free access. Authorization will be required for vehicles taxed outside Reus, parking owners, relatives of elderly residents, and vehicles associated with local economic activities.
Temporary authorizations can also be requested for hotel guests, tourist accommodations, and for specific cases related to works or activities. Applications can be made in person at the Oficina d'Atenció Ciutadana (Citizen Service Office) or online through the Reus City Council's electronic headquarters.
