The film, set in a dystopian future where old age has been overcome and death is optional, has been selected for the official out-of-competition section Cannes Première. The filmmaker, who has resided in London since 2014, has expressed her surprise and joy at this recognition, which she considers a "total prize" for her first foray into feature filmmaking.
“"Making a film is a miracle, and going to Cannes is a total prize."
The film features a cast of renowned international actors, including Rebecca Hall, Noomi Rapace, and Gael García Bernal, as well as talents like David Verdaguer, Susan Wokoma, and Kristine Kujath Thorp. The director highlighted the complexity of the casting process, which was "long" but "very intense and beautiful," allowing the characters to be built progressively.
The self-penned screenplay was developed with the BBC and eventually reached casting directors in the United States who championed the project. The filmmaker has described her career as a "stone by stone" journey, where learning and growth as a writer and director are constant. Her stay in London, initially a coincidence, became a turning point thanks to a scholarship that allowed her to pursue a master's degree in fiction directing at the National Film and TV School.
Despite the distance, the director maintains a strong connection to Reus, which she considers her home, and is already immersed in new projects following this international success.
