The city of Reus has concluded the first phase of the Reus Respira Plan, involving the planting of 371 trees across 44 streets, an operation that entailed an investment of 254,659.19 euros.

This initiative is part of the municipal strategy for expanding and protecting urban tree cover, which aims to incorporate a minimum of 500 new specimens annually. The works were carried out by the company L'Agulla construcció i serveis de paisatge SL.
The project included preparing tree pits, excavation, planting the trees, and their maintenance for the first year. The chosen locations were based on both technical criteria and citizen demands gathered through the city council's active listening processes. Prior inspections had identified the need to replace diseased or dry trees and empty tree pits.
Twenty different species were selected, prioritizing their resilience, climatic adaptation, and consistency with the urban landscape. The Reus Respira Plan (R2) aims to allocate a minimum of 150,000 euros annually to new tree planting, with the goal of adding 5,000 trees over 10 years, thereby increasing the current 18,400 specimens by almost 30%.
