The Reus City Council has begun planting 371 trees across 44 streets in the city this March, as part of an investment totaling 254,659 euros.

This initiative is part of the Reus Respira strategic project, which aims to increase the city's tree canopy by 30% over the next decade. The works, awarded to L'Agulla construcció i serveis de paisatge SL, include site preparation, planting, and first-year maintenance.

"With the deployment of the Reus Respira Plan, we are taking a decisive step towards a greener, healthier city that is better prepared for climate change."

A total of 20 different species were selected based on their resilience and adaptation to the local climate. The locations were determined by technical inspections and citizen requests to replace dead or missing trees in urban areas.
The local government plans to plant over 500 trees annually. Reus currently has 18,400 trees, and the long-term goal is to add 5,000 new specimens within ten years to reduce urban heat islands and improve quality of life.
