The city of Reus will honor the Confraria Guardadors de la Tronada, Marta Mata School, Dr. Joan Borràs, and CESDA aviation school with municipal honorary mentions during the Misericordia Festivals.

The Confraria Guardadors de la Tronada, Marta Mata School, Dr. Joan Borràs, and the CESDA aviation school will be presented with municipal honorary mentions during the upcoming institutional events of the Misericordia Festivals in September. This recognition celebrates individuals and entities that contribute to the city's growth, an honor officially approved at last Friday's council meeting.
This annual gesture highlights the vitality of Reus's social fabric, despite the economic and social challenges faced by some century-old organizations. The Confraria Guardadors de la Tronada, founded in 1951 to revitalize the Sant Pere main festival, celebrates its 65th anniversary this year and has also included female members since 2013. Marta Mata School, a legacy of pedagogical revolution, marks its 30th year, while Dr. Joan Borràs is recognized for his work in oncology and humanizing the doctor-patient relationship. CESDA aviation school celebrates 25 years, having trained nearly 700 students.

"We need Guardians and Guardians of Reus Entities and also of Reus, because while the mayor, the socialist Sandra Guaita, recounted the work done by the tripartite government and future projects, the next day, the head of the main opposition group, Teresa Pallarès, harshly criticized their work."

Political polarization, once exclusive to international, state, and national spheres, has now reached local politics. This trend is expected to intensify leading up to the municipal elections on Sunday, May 23, 2027. Reus citizens require an objective analysis of the city's situation, free from partisan demagoguery, and the entities and representatives of various sectors can offer independent and authoritative voices for an accurate assessment.
The Misericordia Festivals will feature six 'tronades' this year, six gunpowder explosions that cover the Mercadal square. In addition to the one already seen for Corpus, five more will be enjoyed between September 24th and 29th. The increase in 'tronades' is justified by the 700th anniversary of Corpus and the 400th of the relic's transfer of Saint Peter. However, for the pre-campaign, campaign, and elections, votes are needed, not fireworks, and each voter's critical awareness will be key to their choice.
Abstention, while legitimate, has a limited effect on the composition of the future council, which with its 27 councilors will influence the city's daily life between 2027 and 2031. The true 'Guardians of Reus' are the voters, deserving of an eternal municipal honorary mention, while the rest is considered 'noise and smoke.' It is hoped that all candidacies will place citizens at the center of their electoral programs.
