The municipal company Aigües de Reus has awarded the contracts for the replacement of approximately 500 meters of water pipes in Carrer de l'Escultor Rocamora. This intervention, part of the Reus Sud Neighborhood Plan, aims to improve the efficiency of the supply system and eliminate old asbestos cement pipes.
The works, with an estimated duration of two months, will commence in mid-September. The project also includes the removal of asbestos cement pipes, which will be replaced with new materials and decommissioned, thus complying with European recommendations on asbestos removal from infrastructure.
The total investment for this project amounts to 266,192.62 euros. A significant portion, 40% of the cost, is co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), within the Local Integrated Development Strategy (EDIL). The remaining 60% of the funding comes from the Reus City Council.
According to municipal sources, the coordination between the City Council and Aigües de Reus seeks to minimize inconvenience to citizens by carrying out the renewal of water and sewage networks simultaneously with or prior to street redevelopment works.
This water network renewal is a preparatory phase before the comprehensive transformation of Carrer de l'Escultor Rocamora, recently announced. The plan is to complete the network works before the end of the year, subsequently proceeding with the street's redevelopment.
Aigües de Reus has announced that the works will not incur any additional costs for the affected residents. The start of the works will be communicated to residents and neighborhood associations shortly. For inquiries during execution, the phone number 977 345 843 has been provided.
