The city of Reus marks this Thursday, February 19th, the International Day Against LGBTI-phobia in Sports with a public event at Plaça del Mercadal to promote inclusive athletics.

Local authorities, the H2O Collective, and sports representatives will gather to read a manifesto advocating for the right to play sports without discrimination. The initiative aligns with Law 11/2014, which protects the rights of LGBTI+ individuals in Catalonia.
To increase visibility, rainbow armbands have been distributed to local sports clubs. Athletes are encouraged to wear them during this weekend's competitions, turning local matches into a platform for equality and respect.
This international day was established in 2010 in memory of Justin Fashanu, the first professional footballer to come out as gay. His struggle, championed by The Justin Campaign, remains a cornerstone for fighting homophobia in the sporting world.
