The Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV) has launched a new chair in Cambrils, focusing on the Mediterranean diet and health, with the goal of fostering applied research and specialized training in this area.

This new chair, named the Cambrils Mediterranean Diet and Health Chair, has been established in partnership with the Cambrils City Council. Its primary purpose is to promote research, training, and scientific dissemination in the field of health and the Mediterranean diet.
The project aims to become a meeting point between the academic world, the gastronomic sector, and the healthcare field. In this way, it seeks to facilitate knowledge transfer and drive initiatives that promote healthy eating and a better quality of life for the population.
The chair will be led by a renowned doctor in the field, supported by a doctor in the sub-direction. Among its objectives is the desire to position Cambrils as a benchmark in Mediterranean diet, health, and well-being, as well as to lay the groundwork for a health observatory in the Mediterranean area of Southern Catalonia.

"We have the full range of studies related to cooking, and there is a higher level, which is the university, about which we cannot say too much, but we can say that the City Council is working to have a line of research related to gastronomy and with Cambrils as a reference."

This initiative is part of a context where Cambrils has already made significant strides in culinary training. Starting in the 2026-2027 academic year, the Institut Cambrils will offer a Specific Training Itinerary (IFE) for Auxiliary in Restaurant Services and Meal Preparation, making the municipality the first in Catalonia to offer the full range of culinary training.
