The Town Council of Mont-roig del Camp will hold an extraordinary plenary session next Monday to ratify the land lease agreement with Adif. This approval is the last necessary municipal step to advance the project for the future Costa Daurada greenway, an agreement that already had the go-ahead from Cambrils and Vandellòs i l'Hospitalet de l'Infant.
The signing of these agreements was an indispensable condition for Adif to commence the works, which have accumulated over two years of delay. The greenway will transform the old coastal railway line into a 19-kilometer itinerary designed for pedestrians and cyclists, connecting the former station of Cambrils with El Torn beach in L'Hospitalet de l'Infant.
With the processing completed in Mont-roig del Camp, the affected town councils will have validated the agreements. Subsequently, Adif will have to manage the search for funding for the execution of the works, after losing almost 6 million euros in previously granted European funds for this project.
The agreement stipulates that Adif will retain ownership of the land, while the municipalities will obtain its use through a long-term cession or lease (20 years, renewable for another ten). The lease is symbolic, with annual fees of 1,800 euros for Vandellòs i l'Hospitalet de l'Infant and 2,000 euros for Cambrils.
The town councils will assume the management and part of the conservation and maintenance obligations of the space. To ensure the project's viability, the three municipalities have secured the collaboration of the Tarragona Provincial Council in future maintenance tasks and the infrastructure's tourism promotion.
