The Department of Territory has this week begun works in Cambrils to demolish the old railway bridge over the Alforja stream, which will be replaced by a new viaduct for the future Camp de Tarragona tramway.

The works, part of the construction of the Camp de Tarragona tramway, also include improving the stream's hydraulic capacity and adapting adjacent roads. The first phase, lasting approximately six months, will focus on demolishing the bridge and adjusting the geometry of nearby streets, thereby eliminating the visual impact of the old structure and resolving issues of water accumulation during rain episodes.
This action, coordinated with the Cambrils City Council, will enhance the hydraulic capacity of the Alforja stream by removing the bridge's piers. The reorganization of mobility will involve creating alternative routes for vehicles, pedestrians, and buses.
The second phase, to be launched later, involves the construction of the new viaduct for the tramway, which will also connect the neighborhoods on both sides of the stream via a civic axis for pedestrians and cyclists.
These works are part of the first phase of the Camp de Tarragona tramway, a strategic project for the region's mobility and decarbonization, including the configuration of the tram system and the future FGC operational center, valued at over 150 million euros.
