This action is part of the commemorative program for Deltebre's 50th anniversary, celebrated in 2027, and aims to capture the testimony of the current municipality, the concerns and hopes of its residents, and future expectations.
Mayor Lluís Soler highlighted that the initiative seeks "a collective exercise of memory, but above all, a look towards the future," allowing "us to explain to future generations what today's Deltebre is like, what concerns us, what excites us, and what municipality we imagine in 50 years." Soler emphasized that the capsule "will allow us to establish a very special link between the current Deltebre and that Deltebre of 2077".
Participation is open to all citizens. A letter template can be filled out at the Centre Cultural del Delta or downloaded from the Town Hall's website. Letters must be submitted to the Cultural Centre by Friday, November 6th. The initiative also aims to involve local associations and educational centers with specific letter templates.
The commissioner for the 50th anniversary, Elena Fabra, encouraged participation, reminding that "a simple letter, a personal experience, a reflection, or a future wish can have immense value" for those who will read them in 2077, as "what may seem everyday to us today will be a testimony of how we were and how we lived in 50 years".
On Sunday, November 15th, a commemorative event will be held outside the Centre Cultural del Delta to bury the Time Capsule. On the same day, 50 trees will be planted to start the 50th Anniversary Forest, with the participation of the "quinta" (birth cohort) of 1977, the year Deltebre was segregated.
These initiatives are part of the actions to commemorate Deltebre's fiftieth anniversary, combining historical memory with citizen participation and reflection on the municipality's future.
