The municipalities of Aldover, Alfara de Carles, Paüls, and Benifallet started implementing an electronic identification system for organic waste bins this February in the Terres de l'Ebre region.

The Tanca el cercle campaign, managed by COPATE, introduces smart bins that identify users when they put out their waste. This initiative aims to increase recycling rates and move away from flat-rate waste taxes towards a more equitable model.
Funded by Next Generation EU funds, the project also includes emergency disposal areas accessible via electronic key fobs or the Komtainer mobile app. Residents can now track their participation and report issues digitally.

"These municipalities are taking a step forward towards a more sustainable and efficient waste management model."
