The artist Josep Pinyol appeared this Wednesday before the Instruction Court number 2 of Tortosa to testify regarding a controversial procession-style performance.

The legal proceedings follow a complaint filed by the Abogados Cristianos group against the Santa Baldana event. The court is examining whether the performance, organized by Pinyol, qualifies as a crime against religious feelings under Spanish law.

"The 'Santa Baldana' accompanies us with the same spirit of peace and abundance, even though it scares some people."

While the artist expressed confidence in the justice system in Tortosa, Amnesty International issued a statement supporting his case. The human rights organization has called for the charges to be dropped, citing the protection of freedom of artistic expression.
