The COREMBE collective announced this March that it will use every legal tool available to prevent the removal of the Battle of the Ebro monument in Tortosa, despite recent court setbacks.

The group argues that the Supreme Court's recent decision to dismiss an appeal does not automatically mandate the monument's removal. According to COREMBE, the ruling was strictly related to a specific municipal cataloging procedure and does not end their broader legal strategy to keep the structure in the river.

"Our legal team is already working on new ways to defend the validity of the will of Tortosa's citizens."

The controversy dates back to a 2016 public consultation where 68.36% of local voters supported keeping and reinterpreting the monument. However, the Supreme Court recently rejected an appeal from the Asociación Cultural Despierta España due to procedural flaws and a lack of legal merit, ordering the association to pay court costs.
