COREMBE to exhaust legal options to protect Tortosa's Francoist monument

The group claims the Supreme Court's recent ruling does not mandate the immediate removal of the Ebro river monolith.

The COREMBE collective has pledged to use all available legal avenues in Tortosa to defend the monument commemorating the Battle of the Ebro from being dismantled.

Following a Supreme Court decision to reject appeals from far-right groups, COREMBE argued that the ruling only concerns the removal of the monument from Tortosa's local heritage list. They insist this does not equate to a final order for its physical removal.

"In no case does it imply, by itself, the removal of the monument."

The organization, alongside Tortosins pel Monument, stated that their planned strategy involves multiple judicial fronts. The monument has been without heritage protection since November 2020, when regional urban planning authorities approved its declassification.
