This initiative, totaling €1,879,885.56, is primarily funded by €1,344,439.72 from Next Generation EU funds, through two calls for Strategic Projects for Economic Recovery and Transformation (PERTE). The objective is to optimize the management of drinking water and sewage, anticipate incidents, and reduce losses.
“"This project will allow us to improve the service, anticipate incidents, reduce losses, and offer a faster and more effective response to citizens. The unstoppable transformation of Deltebre also implies modernizing basic services that are essential for the well-being of the citizenry."
Among the planned actions, the installation of 2,422 smart meters with remote reading stands out, which will allow real-time knowledge of consumption and immediate detection of anomalies. With progressive renovation, it is expected that by 2027 a total of 5,052 meters will have been renewed, moving towards a more digitized and efficient network. Furthermore, the network will be sectorized into three distinct large zones, with new pressure and flow control systems to facilitate leak detection.
The project also includes the installation of sensors to monitor water quality, sewage monitoring systems, and digital tools to detect leaks and blockages. To improve transparency and citizen information, a website and a mobile application will be created to facilitate access to service data and strengthen response capacity during drought episodes or specific incidents.
Additionally, the Deltebre City Council is carrying out the sectorization of the drinking water network in the town of La Cava with an investment of €613,295, with a subsidy from the ACA of €300,000. This project focuses on replacing PVC pipes mainly installed in the 1970s, creating two independent networks per street and dividing the current single sector into three independent sectors to optimize service and maintenance. Thanks to the actions implemented, the performance of the municipality's drinking water network has increased from 30% to 50%, and it is expected to continue increasing with the new actions.
