The Center for Addiction Care and Follow-up (CAS) in Tortosa marked its 40th anniversary this Thursday, celebrating four decades of essential and human service.

The Center for Addiction Care and Follow-up (CAS) in Tortosa celebrated its 40th anniversary this Thursday. The mayor, who attended the event, highlighted "four decades of an essential, pioneering, and profoundly human service" that has supported thousands of people through difficult times. The Councilor for Health was also present at the commemoration.
Since its inception at the Hospital de la Santa Creu de Jesús, the Tortosa CAS has undergone significant evolution. The figures reflect its activity: over 6,400 clinical records opened, nearly 6,400 visits last year, around 1,400 active cases, and approximately 200 new treatments annually, a figure that exceeded 250 last year. Furthermore, over 150 treatment restarts are recorded each year, with more than 180 in 2025.

But behind every number there are people. There are stories of suffering, but also of overcoming, bravery, and personal reconstruction.

The mayor took the opportunity to extend a special recognition "to all the professionals who have been part of the CAS throughout these forty years," emphasizing the human importance behind the statistics.
