The initiative, currently involving about ten participants coordinated between the CAP, municipal social services, and the Civic Center, offers lunches twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, at the La Riba restaurant. This activity aims to address the risk of social isolation identified in the municipality.
The project originated from the Community Steering Group of La Pobla de Segur, led by the City Council, in response to the need to act against unwanted loneliness, a problem affecting one in five people in Spain according to the 2024 Barometer of Unwanted Loneliness.
Characterized by strong participation from its inception, users not only share meals but have also cooked together, strengthening group cohesion and autonomy. The initial proposal for communal dining was piloted in the town in June 2024, building on the experience of the SALSA Project.
The program targets residents aged 40 to 95 who live alone and face challenges in forming social connections. Promoters highlight that unwanted loneliness is often linked to a higher risk of malnutrition due to the tendency to prepare less varied and balanced meals.
