The municipality of Aldover will host the first edition of the Riuviu festival, an event that combines culture, gastronomy, and the promotion of the Terres de l’Ebre region. The event will take place at the river beach from June 19-21, coinciding with the summer solstice, and will offer more than thirty activities including music, circus, theater, workshops, and tastings of local wine and olive oil.
The inaugural day will begin with a parade by the Grallers de Roquetes and Aldowayra, connecting the town with the riverbank, the main venue for the events. The program includes local productions such as theater by the collective Confeti, cabaret by La Catxell, theater and poetry by the company Cia Atípica, the dance performance I ara què? by Mar Grifoll, circus by ArtticShows, and the Catalan play Terra Baixa en essència by Teia Teatre.
Musically, the festival will feature the presentation of the new album by the Senienc group Anarres on Friday, headliner Joan Rovira on Saturday, and the Lleida-based group Sexenni to close the event on Sunday. Additionally, a collaboration with the Mostra de Jazz de Tortosa will present the concert by The Dixieland Cavaliers on Friday evening. The nights will also be enlivened by local DJs dj Marjal and Laura Victòria.
One of the main attractions will be a hot air balloon installed at the football field, thanks to the collaboration of the region's four Designations of Origin (DO): DOP Arròs del Delta de l’Ebre, DOP Oli Baix Ebre Montsià, DO Terra Alta, and Consell Regulador DO Terra Alta. This activity will offer panoramic views of the river and the municipality.
The festival director, Aida Mayor, emphasizes that Riuviu aims to be a meeting point for culture, territory, and gastronomy, celebrating the vitality of rural life and local talent. The gastronomic program includes workshops and tastings of wine, olive oil, and ham, featuring local (km0) products.
The president of the DO Terra Alta Regulatory Council, Josep Pere Colat, highlights the importance of these synergies for promoting local products, while the secretary of DOP Oli Baix Ebre i Montsià, Marina Soler, stresses the need to promote gastronomy to keep it alive. The president of DO Terra Alta, Jordi Rius, adds that the hot air balloon aims to showcase olive oil and rice paired with Garnatxa Blanca wine.
The festival also includes activities at the municipal pools with water aerobics and children's games to raise awareness about environmental preservation, in collaboration with COPATE. Furthermore, a collaborative space has been created with entities such as APASA, Atzavara, Blanquerna, and the schools of ZER Riu i Serra (Aldover, Benifallet, and Paüls) and the Institut Escola El Temple, who have created an artistic exhibition about the Baix Ebre fire of 2025, using ashes from the incident.
In a gesture of territorial commitment, Riuviu and the Plataforma en Defensa de l’Ebre (Ebro Defense Platform) have joined forces to welcome the entity's annual kayaking trip in Aldover, offering them a breakfast at popular prices. Most of the structures for the festival's eight spaces have been built using recycled pallets, minimizing environmental impact, according to artistic director Eduard Arbona.
