The Government has designated the future university hospital of Terres de l'Ebre as a priority project, a measure aimed at accelerating its processing and implementation in Tortosa.

This declaration places the infrastructure at the same level of importance as other relevant healthcare projects in Catalonia. The main objective is to simplify coordination between the various administrations involved and streamline the procedures necessary to create a facility that must overcome the current limitations of the Hospital Universitari de Tortosa Verge de la Cinta.
The project is currently in the definition phase. The Department of Health is developing the Functional Plan, which will determine the organization, healthcare services, and technology of the new center. In parallel, the Department of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition is working on urban planning and mobility studies to locate the hospital on the ARE Raval de la Llet site.
The new facility will have a strong university focus. It is planned to integrate spaces dedicated to teaching and research in collaboration with the Rovira i Virgili University, in order to support Nursing studies and the future implementation of Medicine in the region.
