The sports weekend for the Ebro teams in Primera Catalana yielded mixed results. While UE Rapitenca suffered a home defeat against Sitges (0-2) and Ascó comfortably beat Natació Terrassa (3-0), Tortosa Ebre was the protagonist of an epic clash against Sant Cugat, the second-placed team, which ended in a tight 3-2.
The Tortosa Ebre match, despite their position at the bottom of the league with 21 points and eight points from safety, started promisingly. Ferran Buera opened the scoring in the 43rd minute, followed by Roger Pi in the 54th minute, making it 2-0. Cristian Valcárcel extended the lead in the 61st minute, making it 3-0, which seemed decisive.
However, the match took an unexpected turn. In the 73rd minute, Marc Ruano scored for Sant Cugat (3-1). Tensions rose with the expulsions of Marc Ayuso (double yellow in the 77th and 81st minutes) and Genis (straight red in the 83rd minute), leaving Tortosa Ebre with eight players. Marc Arnau scored to make it 3-2 in the 86th minute, and shortly after, Arnau Beltran was also sent off for a double yellow.
The referee temporarily suspended the match due to insults from the stands, while the home team claimed a rival player had hurled insults from the field. Finally, Tortosa Ebre managed to hold onto the result until the 104th minute, breaking a 15-game winless streak. Their next match will be an away game against NSA Camp Joliu.
Meanwhile, Ascó remains in a comfortable fifth position, far from both relegation and promotion spots. They defeated Natació Terrassa with goals from Marcel Meseguer (38th minute), Modest Notario (50th minute), and Jordi Aumatell (74th minute). Their next opponent will be Cubelles. Rapitenca, on the other hand, continues in a delicate situation, tenth with 30 points, just one above the relegation zone, after their home defeat. Their next fixture is against Catllar.
