Members of Jovent Republicà carried out a protest at the Francoist monument in Tortosa last Saturday, unfurling a banner with the slogan ‘Let's make them fall. Independence, Catalan Countries’ and Catalan flags.

The action, taken on Saturday morning, is a response to “attempts to hide behind biased arguments to justify” the monument's continued presence. According to a statement from the organization, “we cannot allow these symbols to continue occupying our public spaces with total impunity”.
Jovent Republicà argues that “Faced with historical revisionism and the advance of reaction, we claim popular organization and mobilization as essential tools to combat fascism.” The group considers the continued presence of this symbol to be an “intolerable normalization of Francoism.”
The organization also points out that the current reactionary offensive “is not just cultural or symbolic, but has direct material consequences on our lives,” such as job precarity, housing commodification, privatization of public services, and the erosion of social rights. Therefore, they argue that the anti-fascist struggle is also a class struggle.
