The judge of Tortosa instruction court number 2 has withdrawn the status of suspect from the Mayor of Camarles, Joan Curto, regarding the investigation into irregular payments.

The Mayor, who will now testify as a witness, was originally included in the probe despite Camarles City Council filing the initial complaint. The case involves an alleged 700,000 euro fraud identified by the Diputació de Tarragona in December 2024.
The investigation continues against the municipal secretary and the former treasurer for embezzlement and falsification of documents. The probe focuses on irregular salary payments and invoices paid via bearer checks.
During the court session this Wednesday, the former treasurer admitted to some irregular operations, while the comptroller defended the legality of the payments, claiming they were known by local councilors.
