The attempted robbery at the Bingo hall in Tortosa in September 2022 is now going to trial, with three individuals facing charges for serious crimes. The assault resulted in the death of an employee and injuries to a customer. The second section of the Audiencia de Tarragona is hosting the jury trial.
The defendants are facing charges including robbery with violence in a public establishment in attempted degree, murder, attempted murder, membership in a criminal group, and illegal possession of firearms. According to the prosecution, two of the accused entered the premises with unlicensed firearms, stole a customer's phone, and shot him. Subsequently, they shot the establishment's manager in the neck, causing her death, despite her cooperation.
The events unfolded while a fourth individual, a minor at the time, acted as a lookout. The assailants fled without achieving their intended objective, as the victim had activated emergency services before being fatally shot.
The prosecution considers that aggravating circumstances of disguise and abuse of superiority are present. For this reason, it is requesting a life sentence with review for each of the defendants for the murder charges, and an additional 8 years in prison for the remaining offenses.
It is worth remembering that the juvenile court of Tarragona already ordered the confinement in a closed regime for 7 years and 3 months for the minor involved in the events in June 2023, with an additional year of supervised liberty.
