The council of L'Ametlla de Mar approved the municipal budget for 2026 on Friday during a plenary session, amounting to 19,371,197 euros. Of this sum, 4,979,781.17 euros will be dedicated to investments within the municipality. The proposal passed with favorable votes from the governing team (ERC, PSC, and Entesa), while Junts and the non-attached councilor Ana Aragon voted against it. This marks the first significant measure by the new governing team, formed following a motion of no confidence against Junts.
As reported by La Cala Ràdio, the funding for these investments primarily comes from external grants. 3,361,000 euros have been secured through the Nuclear Transition Funds and the Next Generation Funds. Additionally, 815,643 euros will be contributed through the council's own resources or those of La Cala Gestió.
An allocation of 400,000 euros has been earmarked for the annual installment to acquire the Bon Repòs park, financed by funds from La Cala Gestió. Other planned investments using own resources include reinforcing pipelines on Carrer Amistat Hispano-Italiana, improvements to municipal sports facilities, optimizing waste collection, and renovating the sewage system and potable water supply along the Passeig Marítim.
Regarding projects subsidized by European and nuclear transition funds, the local government plans to execute the Cuina de Mar space and enhance the biomass treatment system. Actions also include finalizing the car park at the town's entrance, installing photovoltaic panels on municipal facilities, acquiring electric vehicles, and developing digital marketing and smart beach management plans, alongside investments in the sports area.
To meet the state administration's demands for reducing the personnel budget, the governing team has opted to adjust the salaries of three of its members, thereby avoiding other budgetary modifications in this area. The budget aligns with the parameters set by the Ministry of Finance and includes a reduction of 500,000 euros in general expenditure.
The opposition, while acknowledging that the budget is largely based on their prior preparations, believes that the introduced modifications eliminate important allocations and inflate revenues. The governing team, conversely, defends the budget as a crucial tool for the town's progress and the consolidation of pending projects.
In other matters, a modification to the Municipal Urban Planning Plan (POM) was provisionally approved to adjust the minimum plot size in the Ribes Altes sector. Palma Abás was appointed as the titular justice of the peace, with Encarna Sentís as her alternate. Trustees for the Fundació Privada Martí i Castro were also designated. A motion defending rural and maritime development, supporting the LEADER program and Mediterranean fishing, was unanimously approved.
The only point of agreement, apart from the municipal budgets, was the validation of article 18 of general ordinance number 30, which regulates the commercial occupation of public spaces, despite opposition disagreement.
