Paradores de España confirmed its "firm commitment" to the renovation of the Tortosa Parador on February 9, 2026, assuring that the €14.3 million investment is progressing despite cancellation rumors.

The state entity Paradores de España issued a statement to deny the claims made by the spokesperson for Junts per Tortosa, Meritxell Roigé, who had announced the supposed "cancellation" of the renovation works scheduled for 2026. These works had been announced by the Minister of Industry, Jordi Hereu, during a visit to the city last November.

"Paradores continues to work on the administrative and technical processing to address the comprehensive reform that will allow the establishment to be updated."

Paradores assured that the project, which includes functional, energy, and sustainability actions, is progressing "according to technical planning." However, the company admitted that the "initial planned development" has been rethought to incorporate additional actions in key areas such as the kitchen, lounges, and service rooms.
The confirmed global investment amounts to 14.3 million euros. Of this, 10.3 million corresponds to actions directly promoted by Paradores, and the remaining 4 million are interventions executed by Turespaña, focused on the conservation and access to the historical heritage elements, such as the Suda galleries and the north bastion of the wall.
The decision to rethink the project, which was initially planned to be executed in several phases, responds to "criteria of efficiency, quality of the final result, and optimization of the investment," according to the entity. These improvements include the renovation of rooms and bathrooms, modernization of electrical and climate control installations, and the adaptation of common areas.
Prior to the statement, Roigé had described the alleged cancellation as "very serious" and used the situation to criticize former mayor Jordi Jordan, stating that "the opportunistic announcements made by Mr. Jordan just before the handover of the mayoralty are starting to fall apart."
