In a statement released on March 26, Aragón explained her decision based on principles of dignity and respect for the town. She claims that the government agreement to share the mayoralty has been undermined by actions that destabilized the common project.
The councilor alleges that De la Fuente recorded private conversations without consent and held secret meetings with the opposition. Furthermore, she claims that certain public grants were intentionally delayed to prevent the current government from gaining political credit.
“"I know what is expected of me, but I also know what it means to do it. And I cannot."
Despite seeking support from the Socialist Party leadership without success, Aragón maintains that her position is a matter of ethics rather than personal interest. She acknowledges that this move will likely lead to political consequences and criticism within her party.
